Hey, something's amiss.....
I just reviewed my blogs and found that a few did not go through for some reason the other day. I am required to show the duties that I performed on the Art Show for Students that was held at UNBC on Nov. 15,2007. First, I would like to share my reflections on the show. I think this could easily be done at a school on a night combined with another celebrations like a concert or just on its own. We celebrate singing, athletics so why not all the art the students create. I know that at Heather Park Middle School, the front foyer and the library is full of posted art that the students have created. It is so inviting and visually attractive at that school - it sets the atmosphere of the school to any new visitors as well as celebrates the work of the individual artist. Having an arts event could easily be done and it could be alongside a PAC fund raiser or with a choir recital.
At our event, the elementary students loved it, there was lots of excitement and the parents were so proud. It was so much fun, and it was great to see how proud the teacher candidates were of the students' and the students' work. Having it in the foyer of the Learning Center was fine so that the younger children could run around and play and even yell! It was fun for even those, including myself, who did not have students participate at the event so it was a great success.

The duties that I did for the event were:
- talked with students and parents about the artwork. Asked students to describe their process of the artwork and what their favourite part of their work/process was to them
- greeted parents and directed them to their child's art work
- cut cake and poured drinks
- arranged for 2 white boards - one as a sign in front of the library to direct the parents to the learning center and another one to hang the banner that titled the event.
- bought and brought flowers and vases to add a bit of nature to the open space
- brought candies for the little kids and big kids to munch on if they wanted to
- brought extra supplies - extension cords, tape, scissors, etc -just in case
- helped return chairs to classroom
- last person to leave event to ensure that nothing was forgotten and that foyer was clean so that custodial staff did not have extra work to do due to our event
- organized cohort so that all necessary jobs were taken care of and not forgotten
- set up string to hang pictures on
- organized chairs for event
- organized music and sound system which was not used during event
Canadian Arts - Image Gallery
This is a link to the virtual museums of Canada. It has Canadian contributions to art, history, science etc. It also has a teacher link with lesson plans as well. This one has different images so it shows art work of the Group of Seven for people like me who are pretty ignorant of Canadian artist.

Just Sing, Sing - A - Long, Fa La La La La....
Here are some pic of some STARS....

Here are the
pictures of some pretty creative
people who I am proud to know. The sing A long was good fun and a nice little interruption from our studies.
I have to say, I am glad I brought the little touches of the Santa hats, the Mrs. Santa Claus/pimp outfit(You are nothing but Class, Mrs. Claus), and of course the Santa costume ( you can make good money being a Santa - hey, think how good that would be on a resume....and you can even go to SANTA SCHOOL - honest...Great Job being Mr. HO! HO! HO! Mr. Frost - does the name have something to do with it?) . thanksto my children's school for the props....
The 15 mins of fame of was fun and I actually wanted to sing more! It was sure nice to see the audience participation - only in a room full of teachers would that of happened.
We could have had another practice but the informality also added to its spontaneity...the kids do so why don't we as adults?
I am always envious of all who are musical from vocal to instrument play. I dabble a bit with guitar but never outside my home. One day I may be brave enough to bring it to a campfire where there is lots of drinking....of coffee
Enjoy the pics! Wish I took more....
